Real Madrid has reportedly had an initial bid rejected by RB Leipzig for winger Yan Diomande. The offer was for an initial fee, plus add-ons. Despite the rejected bid, Real Madrid is understood to be in negotiations with RB Leipzig to reach an agreement for the Ivory Coast international. Real Madrid has also reportedly agreed on personal terms with Diomande.

Liverpool has also expressed interest in Diomande but is reportedly unwilling to pay more than a certain amount. This potential fee from Liverpool would reportedly surpass the Premier League’s record transfer for a teenager, which was for Leny Yoro from Lille in 2024. Paris St-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester City are also said to be interested in Diomande.

Competition for Diomande

Sources close to the potential deal describe the situation as an open race with six weeks remaining in the transfer window. Real Madrid has made an offer amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of Vinicius Junior. Diomande had previously indicated a preference to move to PSG earlier this summer, and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has held talks with the German club. However, Leipzig is reportedly only willing to sell for an exceptional fee.

RB Leipzig’s managing director of sport, Marcel Shafer, stated that the club’s clear intention is for Diomande to play for them next year. The German club has been holding out for a higher fee and is also attempting to secure a new deal for Diomande, whose current contract extends through the 2029-30 season. They are hopeful he will remain at the club beyond the September 1 transfer deadline.

Real Madrid has been active in the current transfer window following the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach. The club has already secured players such as Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella. Diomande joined Leipzig a year ago from Spanish side Leganes. He has been described as a revelation since moving to the Bundesliga. Diomande was rewarded with the best rising player prize for the 2025-2026 season by the DFL, beating Hamburg’s Luka Vuskovic and Bayer Leverkusen star Ibrahim Maza.
