England secured their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 following a 38-run victory over the West Indies at Lord’s. This win marked England’s fourth consecutive triumph in the tournament, establishing them as the first team to confirm a spot in the final four.

The hosts delivered a strong performance after electing to field first. Despite an early wicket by Chinelle Henry, dismissing Amy Jones in the opening over, England’s batting lineup recovered effectively. Danni Wyatt-Hodge led the charge, scoring 65 runs off 42 balls, which included eight boundaries, setting a solid foundation for her team.

England’s top and middle order contributed significantly, rallying around the in-form Wyatt-Hodge. Alice Capsey added 28 runs, while Heather Knight, who was dropped on 14 by Hayley Matthews, capitalized on the opportunity to score 43 runs from 26 balls. The team maintained relentless pressure on the West Indies’ bowlers, who struggled with their line and length.

The English batters showcased a robust performance on a flat track, accumulating 86 runs in the initial 10 overs and then adding another 100 runs in the latter half of their innings. Although the West Indies managed to run out Wyatt-Hodge and dismissed power hitters Freya Kemp and Danielle Gibson early, England’s lower order contributed 24 runs in the final two overs, pushing their total past the 180-mark to reach 186/7.

For the West Indies, chasing a target of 187 proved challenging. England struck first in their bowling effort when Linsey Smith dismissed Matthews in the fourth over. While Deandra Dottin initially showed promise, hitting two fours and a six against Charlie Dean, the stand-in English captain ultimately won that exchange, getting Dottin to slog a faster ball to long on.

Shemaine Campbelle, who had previously delivered a match-winning performance against New Zealand, was clean bowled by Sophie Ecclestone for 20 runs. With the score at 64/3, the West Indies found it difficult to maintain the required pace, constrained by England’s smart bowling tactics.

Despite a 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Jahzara Claxton and Chinelle Henry, they consumed 53 balls and were unable to accelerate sufficiently to challenge England’s total. Henry’s unbeaten 51 runs, featuring four fours and two sixes, stood out as the primary highlight in an otherwise subdued batting display by the West Indies.

All West Indian bowlers, with the exception of Aaliyah Alleyne, conceded more than eight runs per over. Off-spinner Ashmini Munisar was the most successful, taking 2 wickets for 42 runs in her four overs. The West Indies, who were also unbeaten before this match, now face the necessity of winning their final group game against Ireland to retain control of their fate for a semi-final berth, while England sits atop Group B with eight points.

The tournament continues with other teams vying for semi-final spots. India and South Africa are scheduled to play tomorrow, both aiming to secure second place behind Australia in Group One. India will face Bangladesh, and South Africa will play against the Netherlands.

This victory at Lord’s ensures England’s progression in the competition, marking a significant milestone in their campaign. The team’s consistent performance has positioned them strongly for the knockout stages of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
