Arsenal exploring deal for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior

Arsenal are reportedly exploring a potential transfer for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. The Brazil international, who is 26 years old, has one year remaining on his contract with the Spanish club. This interest is described as being at an early stage, with no club-to-club contact having taken place yet.

The idea of signing Vinicius Junior is said to have received approval at various levels within Arsenal. He is considered one of several candidates the Premier League champions are looking at to strengthen their attacking options, particularly on the left wing. Other players reportedly on Arsenal’s radar include Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid, Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain.

Contract Situation and Real Madrid’s Stance

Vinicius Junior has entered the final 12 months of his contract after spending eight campaigns with Real Madrid. Negotiations for a new deal have not yet resulted in a breakthrough. Real Madrid may consider selling the player rather than risk losing him for free next summer, especially as he would be due a significant loyalty bonus in the upcoming season.

The player’s future at Real Madrid has also been a subject of discussion following José Mourinho’s return to the club. Reports indicate that Mourinho and Vinicius Junior have been in contact since an incident last season involving Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni, and they were prepared to start the new campaign together.

Vinicius Junior scored 22 goals for Real Madrid across all competitions in the 2025-26 season. He also scored four goals for Brazil at the World Cup, where he played in all five of Brazil’s matches before their elimination by Norway in the round of 16. He joined Real Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo, making 375 total appearances, with 128 goals and 100 assists.

Arsenal’s Transfer Activity

Arsenal have already made several additions to their squad this transfer window. They completed the £34m signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge this week. Tzolis joins Piero Hincapié, whose temporary deal became a permanent switch, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who was out of contract at Leeds, as new arrivals.

The club had also identified Morgan Rogers as a target, but Arsenal were reportedly unwilling to pay more than £80m for the England international. Rogers has since joined Chelsea in a £117m deal, which is a British record fee. Arsenal also sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for £17m earlier this summer.

The interest in Vinicius Junior aligns with Arsenal’s aim to strengthen their left-wing options. Their alternative option in that area, Gabriel Martinelli, scored only one Premier League goal last season. Vinicius Junior was also the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up.

Another Brazil international, Bruno Guimarães, could also be a target for Arsenal. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe commented on Guimarães’ future, stating, “We don’t want to lose our best players. I’ve spoken to him [Guimarães] as I would do. Bruno is just a fantastic person. We’ve had some really good conversations, both before the World Cup, during the World Cup and after the World Cup.” Howe added, “I don’t know what’s going to happen with Bruno’s future. That’s for other people to speculate about.”

Financial Considerations

Regarding Vinicius Junior’s wage demands, reports suggest he is currently earning 15m Euros net per year. Real Madrid has reportedly offered him 20m Euros, while the player is seeking 30m Euros, which is just over 550,000 Euros net per week. This contract situation has reportedly been ongoing for 18 months.

The financial figures involved present a challenge, making it difficult to imagine Arsenal or any Premier League club matching those sums. Real Madrid is reportedly considering Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig as a potential replacement.
