Bangladesh Cricket Board seeks media partners

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has initiated a process to secure worldwide media rights for its bilateral international home series involving the Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Men) scheduled for 2026–27. The board has extended invitations for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) along with financial offers from various entities, including reputable TV broadcasters, digital platforms, marketing agencies, consortiums, and firms. These entities are invited to acquire the media rights for matches to be hosted in Bangladesh during the specified period.

The tender documents specifically outline a series of high-profile tours that are part of this media rights package. These include the India Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2026, which is slated to feature three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20i). Also covered are the West Indies Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2026, comprising two Test matches, and the England Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2027, also featuring two Test matches. The package is rounded out by the Pakistan Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2027, which will consist of five ODIs.

India’s white-ball tour back on track

The invitation for bids suggests that India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, which had been subject to delays, is now likely to proceed. Media reports indicate that this development signals the potential for the long-anticipated series to finally take place. The tour was previously postponed due to diplomatic considerations between the two nations.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had confirmed earlier in the year that India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, initially planned for 2025, was rescheduled to September 2026. This postponement was a result of mutual consultation between the BCCI and the BCB, citing international cricket commitments and scheduling convenience. The series is expected to feature a six-match white-ball series, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.

While the BCB has issued the tender, neither the BCB nor the BCCI has made an official statement confirming the tour’s progression. The BCCI has maintained that its decisions regarding participation in bilateral and multinational sporting events are guided by directives from the Indian government. The board’s stance is that it adheres to the policies framed by the central government, similar to other sports federations.

Tender details and submission

The tender documents for the media rights were made available at the BCB’s Dhaka office starting July 2. Interested parties are required to submit their bids by July 22. This formal bidding process for television and digital broadcasting rights has generated speculation regarding the confirmation of the India-Bangladesh series.

The tender document explicitly invites proposals from established broadcasters, digital platforms, and marketing agencies interested in acquiring worldwide media rights for the specified bilateral home series. The India tour is prominently mentioned at the top of this list, alongside the other tours scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

The original postponement of the India-Bangladesh tour was attributed to diplomatic tensions between the two countries. However, with leadership changes within the Bangladesh government and the cricket board since the postponement, there is renewed hope for the series to proceed. The BCCI has clarified that it does not concern itself with internal political changes within the BCB, focusing instead on following the policies set by the Government of India for international sporting engagements.
